One of the greatest features of the Daisy of Hope Campaign is its flexibility. Participating shelters proved that the sky's the limit when it comes to incorporating the daisy in their fund raising activities. The following are just a few examples.
A- Thons
Walkathons are a great fundraiser where participants raise money by collecting donations or pledges for walking a predetermined distance or course. Participants wearing the Daisy pins will also generate awareness for the Daisy of Hope Campaign – while raising much needed funds for the local shelter. The low intensity model is ideal for mobilizing broad-based community support for, and as a result Walkathons usually target participants from a wide range of ages and economic backgrounds.
Paper Daisies
Paper daisies can be purchased by customers at the time of sale for $1.00. Customers are encouraged to write their name on the daisy as a symbol of their support and contribution. Daisies are then taped up somewhere in the store to create “daisy patches”, representing the combined efforts of community members in the promotion of violence-free living.
Daisy by Direct Mail
Several shelters have successfully used the daisy as the cornerstone of a spring direct mail appeal. Creative variations include enclosing a package of daisy flower seeds with the appeal, enclosing a daisy pin with a request that the recipient wear it during the month of May, and enclosing a pin with the charitable donation receipt.
Daisy at the Mall
Mall displays provide countless opportunities to incorporate the daisy. One shelter sold fresh cut daisies in addition to the daisy pins. Others had t-shirts designed and printed and sold them as Mother's Day gifts.
Working Together
It was a winning combination when one shelter joined forces with a local garden centre to sell potted daisies. A portion of the sale of each plant was donated to the shelter during the days leading up to Mother's Day. Sales were brisk, the garden centre staff members were enthusiastic about their involvement and in the past two years the shelter received more than $3,000!
Corporate Initiatives
A proactive shelter asked a local company if it would endorse the sale of daisy pins to all of its employees. The company agreed and in no time, 400 daisies were sold and the funds directed back to the shelter. An added benefit was the opportunity to educate 400 people about the shelter's programs.
